Janis Ella Brewer Fite

Janis Ella Brewer Fite, age 79, of Mena, Arkansas passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017 in Springdale, Arkansas.

She was born in Redding, California on October 24, 1937 to John Brewer and Eunice Stillwell Brewer. Janis was married to Jim Fite on June 27, 1953 until his death. She was raised in northern California, later moved to Montana where she raised her family and helped work the ranch. She and Jim owned and operated Rich Mountain Zoo and Golf course at Queen Wilhelmina State Park for 28 years. They also built, owned, and operated Rich Mountain Country Store. Janis was also known for her cooking and sweet treats. If you were fortunate to be on her Christmas candy list you enjoyed her famous peanut brittle and almond rocha. Janis was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to all.

She is survived by daughter, Sandra Jewell and husband Jimmie of Mena, Arkansas; son, Scott Fite and wife Becky of Springdale, Arkansas; grandchildren, Ken Foster of Argyle, Texas, Nick Foster of Argyle, Texas, Mandy McMillan of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, Jonathan Jewell of Chandler, Indiana, Angie Landers and husband Greg of Springdale, Arkansas, Amy Hogan and husband Bobby of Benton, Arkansas, Brandi Payne and husband Mark of Benton, Arkansas; great-grandchildren, Sterling, Nicole, Dexter, Bryce, Brennan, Koy, Austin, Jackson, Brooklyn, Lily, Luke, Judah, Hunter and Nicholas; sister, Glendine Gribble of Portola, California; and twin sister, Janet Clearie of Redding, California.

She was preceded in death by husband Jim Fite, her parents, John and Eunice Brewer, brother, Pleasant “Pete” Brewer, and three children, Brenda Denise, Curtis Ray, and Debra Lynn.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church with Brother Donnie Jewell officiating.  Interment follows in Nunley Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.  Visitation will be general.

Pallbearers will be Jimmie Jewell, Frank Moore, Austin Dwiggins, Greg Landers, Andy Brown, and Scott Brown.
