Junior Bearcats Dominate Ashdown 26-0 at Bearcat Stadium


The Junior Bearcats shutout the Junior Panthers 26-0 Thursday, September 22nd, in Bearcat Stadium.

Mena place kicker Mark Wilson got the game underway with the kickoff. Ashdown returned the kick to their own 35-yard line.

The Junior Panthers went three and out on their first possession, punting the ball on fourth and six to the Mena 42.

Mena picked up a pair of first downs before punting the ball into the endzone on fourth and 12.

With seven seconds to play in the first quarter, the Junior Panthers attempted a pass. Wilson intercepted the ball at the Mena 46-yard line

Mena drove 54 yards in four plays to score on a Zane Stephens to Chris Bollmeyer 21 yard touchdown pass with 7:07 to go in the second quarter. The two-point conversion attempt failed, leaving the score Mena 6, Ashdown 0.

Ashdown started their next possession at their own 35. Two plays later, the Junior Panthers fumbled and Devin Adams recovered the ball at the Ashdown 23.

On the next play, Stephens threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Adams with 5:36 left in the half. The two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful, leaving the score Mena 12, Ashdown 0.

The Junior Panthers started their next offensive series at the own three-yard line. Ashdown advanced the ball to their own 29, where they came up short on a fourth and four yards to go, turning the ball over to Mena on downs.

The Junior Bearcats picked up a first down at the Ashdown 20. Stephens handed off to Jacinto Perez on first down. Perez battled his way through the Ashdown defenders, refusing to go down and rumbled into the endzone for a 20-yard touchdown run with 2:24 to play in the half. The two-point conversion failed, leaving the score at Mena 18, Ashdown 0.

Late in the fourth quarter, Mena took over on downs at their own 34-yard line. Stephens handed off to Jake Wiles who gained five yards on first down. Second down saw Wiles gallop for 22 yards to the Ashdown 44. On the next play, Stephens handed the ball to Wiles who sprinted 29 yards down the sideline to the Ashdown 15-yard line where the Panthers drew a horse collar tackle flag that advanced the ball to the Junior Panther seven. An offside flag gave Mena a first and goal from the four-yard line. Stephens handed off to Wiles who scored on a four-yard touchdown run with 2:08 to play. Stephens passed to Jeremiah Swint for the two-point conversion to make the final score Mena 26, Ashdown 0.
