Junior Ladycats Win District Tournament

BY EASTON LEONARD –

On Saturday, October 14th, the Mena Junior High Varsity Ladycats completed their 2017 season with a District Tournament Championship.

The Ladycats traveled to Arkadelphia on Saturday to compete in the tournament, and had to defeat opponents Benton Harmony Grove, Arkadelphia, and Waldron to secure the championship.

Coach Rhonda Thigpen, head coach of the Junior Ladycats, is very proud of her team and says they are “great girls.” At the end of the season, the Ladycats hold a 26-3 record, which Coach Thigpen describes as a “pretty good record.” Ironically, Coach Thigpen says she actually won her last district championship as a coach at Arkadelphia.

With Saturday’s District Tournament win, the Ladycats honored teammate Lauren Sikes, who is currently battling a sickness, with a banner that stated, “Playing for Lauren.”

Congratulations to Coach Thigpen and Coach Fryer, as well as all of the Junior Ladycats on their very successful 2017 season and District Tournament Championship!
