Justin Dean, a senior safety for Mena has the eyes of several college programs watching him as he enters his final season in a Bearcat jersey. Along with hoping to help lead the Bearcats back to the Playoffs, Dean is working towards playing football at the collegiate level.
Commenting on the player Dean is, Coach Tim Harper says, “He has been a tremendous player for us and is everything you look for in a player. He is a great leader and does things on and off the field that puts him and our team in a position to succeed.” Dean is 6’2, and 185 pounds with great athletic ability and explosiveness. At a recent Arkansas camp, he recorded his 40-yard dash in 4.54 seconds and displayed an explosive 35 inch vertical. These intangibles can’t be coached, but it is these abilities that have garnered the attention of several DII and DI football programs.
Among programs looking at Dean are Arkansas State University, the University of Memphis, the University of Arkansas, and several DII schools in the state of Arkansas. “I believe that he is taking his recruiting trip to Arkansas State and Memphis during the same week. He will go up there and talk to their coaches and spend a couple of days on campus. He is a good kid with great abilities, somebody is going to be lucky to get him,” remarks Harper.
Dean will be looked to help carry a significant role on both offense and defense this year for the Bearcats and continue to assume a position of leadership. “He is a great leader for us on the field. He leads by example and that is what we need.” To follow the Bearcats and Justin Dean this upcoming season, look to a future edition of the Pulse and tune in to KENA 104.1.
