Three Mena women competed in this year’s Conquer the Gauntlet event held in Little Rock. Sarah Renick, Darcy Dollar, and Sondra Rosson, ran an obstacle course that covered 4 miles of grueling terrain this past Saturday.
Claiming to be “not another mud run or a 5K with a few walls,” the course offered up 25 obstacles with such names as Hay Bale Heaven, The Pit of Despair, and The Great Wall of America. The race is held in four cities, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Kansas City and Little Rock.
The trio from Polk County not only completed the course but ranked impressively high in the competition. Out of 1445 finishers, 563 were female. Renick placed 10th woman overall and 3rd in her age division, while Dollar placed 31st overall, 6th in her division, and Rosson placed 22nd overall, and 5th in her age division.
For 5 ft tall Renick, some of the 8 ft walls, with no grips, were quite challenging. When asked about how she felt about this year’s race and participating again, Renick said, “I’m excited, exasperated, tired, wet, muddy, and ready to do it again!”
