Lady Tigers Punch Ticket To State Tournament With Win Over St. Paul


Wednesday night, February 22, in the 1A Region 4 Basketball Tournament at County Line High School, the Acorn Lady Tigers took on the Lady Saints of St. Paul.

Acorn forced the Lady Saints to call a few timeouts early in the game, starting off on a 9-2 run. Following the timeouts, the Lady Tigers went on to take a twenty point, 26-6, lead into the second quarter of play. The Lady Saints were able to score thirteen points against Acorn in the second quarter, but allowed the Lady Tigers to score eighteen, to make the score 44-19 at halftime.

Number thirty, Mariah Shipley, and number thirty-two, Harp, led the lady Saints with 6 points a piece at halftime, while Faith Hill led Acorn with 11 points.

The Lady Tiger’s defense let up a little in the third quarter, as St. Paul outscored Acorn 18-16, to make the score 60-37 going into the final quarter of play. Sophie Jackson and Lexi Powell led the Lady Tigers with six points a piece in the fourth quarter, as Acorn scored twenty points, to the Lady Saints fifteen points, giving Acorn a twenty-eight point, 80-52, victory over the Lady Saints.

Mariah Shipley led the St. Paul Lady Saints with 19 points, as number five, Phillips, added on 11 points, Harp – 10, Richie – 5.

Faith Hill led the Acorn Lady Tigers with 18 points on the night, while Sophie Jackson scored 11 points of her own, Tori Barrett and Morgan Fagan 8 points, Makayla Anderson – 7, Brooke Bates and Lexi Powell – 6, Brittany Wilhite, Braxlie Strother, and Sydney Crawford – 4, and McKenzie Goss and Harley Dearing – 2.

The Acorn Lady Tigers will take on the winner of the County Line versus Dierks game (which will be played Thursday, February 23, at 7 p.m.), on Friday at 7pm at County Line High School. Acorn has now officially notched their spot in the Arkansas 1A Girls State Basketball Tournament as well.
