Last Monday night, February 12th, the Mena Ladycats basketball team took on the Robinson Lady Senators, in the first round of the 7-4A Conference Basketball Tournament, at Joe. T Robinson.
In a low scoring first quarter, the Ladycats held Robinson to only five points, while scoring thirteen of their own, to take an eight point, 13-5, lead into the second. The Lady Senators narrowed Mena’s lead down to only one point in the second, outscoring the Ladycats 16-9, to make the halftime score 22-21.
Robinson led the Lady Senators with 9 points at halftime, as Paige Evans led Mena with 6 points.
Continuing to stay a close game, Robinson tied the ball game up at thirty-six going into the fourth, as the Lady Senators outscored Mena by one 15-14. In the fourth, the game wasn’t tied for long, as the Ladycats earned the lead and didn’t look back, outscoring Robinson 20-5, to make the final score 56-41.
Rouse led the Robinson Lady Senators with 14 points in the game, while Robinson and Jones scored 12 points each, Williams 2 points, and Kentle 1 points.
Paige Evan led the Mena Ladycats in scoring with 15 points on the night, as Tateli Thacker added on 13 points of her own, Grace Wagner 11 points, Kiera Kesterson 10 points, Gracie Lyle, Emily Wagner, and Cadie Cannon 2 points each, and Hannah Stockton 1 point.
Moving onto the semi-finals, the Ladycats took on Bauxite, but lost 47-26. Mena then played Arkadelphia in the consolation game, and lost by fifteen, 57-42, to earn fourth place.
This Wednesday, February 21st, the Ladycats will travel to Monticello, to take on the hosting Monticello Lady Billies, in the first round of the 4A South Regional Basketball Tournament, at 4:00pm.
