The Mena High School choirs celebrated the 2015-2016 school year at their spring concert and awards ceremony on Friday, May 6. The concert drew a large crowd after having been postponed the previous week due to inclement weather.
Ten students were recognized for earning positions in the Southwest Region All-Region Honors Choir in November 2015. Those students were: Sarah Rose, Patty Wyant, Abi McPherson, Brithney Dilbert, Caleigh Talamantez, Kameron Posey, Brooklyn Beck, Kelsey Wiggins, Tiffany White, and Sloan Hicks. Sarah Rose, Kameron Posey, and Kelsey Wiggins earned scores that qualified them to audition for All-State Choir in February 2016. Kameron Posey earned a position in the prestigious Arkansas All-State Choir and was a part of the all state concert held in February.
Several students earned honors in the local Choral Incentive Awards program. Level One Honors were presented to McKayla Lane, Caleigh Talamantez, and Alyssa Scott. Tiffany White, Brithney Dilbert, and Brooklyn Beck were recognized for achieving Level Two Honors. Level Four Honors were presented to Abi McPherson and Kelsey Wiggins. Sloan Hicks earned Level Five Honors and Kameron Posey earned Level Seven Honors.
Tyler Luce was named Bearcat Chorus Student of the Year and Abi McPherson was named Spotlight Singers Student of the Year.
The Ladies of the Bearcat Chorus scored Good and Excellent scores at region choral performance assessment in February with a Superior in sight reading. The Spotlight Singers scored a composite Excellent Recommended at region choral performance assessment with a Superior in sight reading. The Bearcat Chorus Men scored a Division I Superior at region solo/ensemble performance assessment. The Spotlight Singers’ scores earned them a fourth consecutive bid to state choral performance assessment where they scored a composite Excellent for their performance.
