BY LARRY BLOCK –
It’s not too early to make your reservations for Mena Mountain Resort’s (MMR) Valentines Day dinner theater event, during which they are presenting the debut of the Ouachita Little Theatre’s (OLT) comedy murder mystery play, Murder in the Magnolias, by Tim Kelly, directed by the OLT president, Tim Hesse. Tickets are $30.00 for dinner and the performance of the play on the large stage at MMR’s conference center. This is a limited-seating, reservations-only, event, with only 200 seats available, and reservations will be taken on a first-come-first-served basis. To make a reservation, call MMR, located at 2817 Hwy 71 North, directly, at (479) 394-3110.
“We have wanted to produce a show with the Arkansas state community theater champions, the OLT, one of Mena’s real treasures, since we opened Mena Mountain Resort,“ said Lou Longoria, MMR’s owner. A humorous murder mystery, served up with a great dinner on Valentine’s Day couldn’t be a more perfect way to do it, and we hope the community will agree!”
The play has been cast and is already in its third week of rehearsals. “As we are going to bring the play back to the stage of the OLT, after we debut it at MMR, one of our unique challenges is to create a ‘traveling’ set, that can be erected at MMR and than brought back ‘home,’” Hesse commented. “We have a great cast in place, featuring some of our most seasoned actors, plus some promising new ones, and expect this play to be a real crowd pleaser, both when it debuts at the resort, and back onstage at the OLT for three weekends after that,” he went on to say.
The event will begin with dinner at 6:30 PM, followed by the play approximately an hour later. For more information call MMR at (479) 394-3110, the OLT Info Line at (479) 243-0186, or visit the OLT website, www.oltmena.com.
