The following information was received from Polk County Sheriff Mike Godfrey for the week of November 11 – November 17, 2013. The charges against those arrested are allegations and the cases are still pending in the courts. Individuals charged and whose names appear in this column may submit documentation to us at a later date that the charges have been dismissed or that they have been found innocent and we will include that information in this space in a timely manner.
November 11, 2013
Report from KCS Railroad of finding a suspicious package in an empty rail car. Officer responded, found nothing dangerous in the bag.
Report from complainant on Broach Lane near Cove of receiving harassing text messages. Information has been provided to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for further consideration.
Report from complainant on Polk 232 near Cove of receiving threats in person and via email. Information has been provided to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for further consideration.
Report from complainant on Big Bear Lane near Mena of the theft of a trampoline, valued at $1,000.00. Investigation continues.
Report from complainant on Polk 414 near Hatfield of damages to a residence, totaling losses at $350.00.
Report of suspicious vehicles on Polk 651 near Mena led to the arrest of Ricky P. Ferguson, 37, of Mena, on a Warrant for Criminal Trespass.
Report from complainant on Highway 246 West near Hatfield of the theft of food and cash, totaling losses at $81.00. Investigation continues.
Arrested was Richard B. Ford, 36, of Mena, on a Warrant for Probation Violation.
November 12, 2013
Report from complainant on Highway 71 South near Cove of the theft of a television, valued at $600.00. Investigation continues.
Report of a fight led to two 16-year-old Cove females being issued Juvenile Citations for Battery 3rd Degree. Both juveniles were released to the custody of a parent/guardian.
Report from complainant on Polk 17 near Cove of an illegal trash dump. Investigation continues.
Report of a 13-year-old Mena male making a derogatory remark toward another individual. The youth was issued a Juvenile Citation for Harassment.
Report from complainant on Polk 277 near Vandervoort of the break-in and theft of several household items. Investigation continues.
Request for assistance from walk-in complainant. Officer responded, advised parties of legal options.
November 13, 2013
Report from complainant on Polk 76 East near Mena of a tenant that refuses to move out. Information has been provided to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for further consideration.
Report from complainant on Elk Drive near Mena of a cut tire, valued at $125.00. Investigation continues.
Report of a domestic disturbance led to a 16-year-old Mena male being issued Juvenile Citations for Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication. The juvenile was later released to the custody of a parent/guardian.
November 14, 2013
Report from walk-in complainant of an unwanted person around her residence.
Report from complainant on Highway 8 West near the Shady Grove community of the theft of a horse trailer. It was later determined that the trailer was not stolen.
Arrested was Thomas W. Duncan, 43, of Mena, on a Warrant for Probation Violation.
November 15, 2013
Report from complainant on Highway 71 South in the Potter community of a vehicle being struck by another vehicle.
Report from complainant on White Lane near the Potter community of the theft of a trailer, valued at $450.00. Investigation continues.
November 16, 2013
Report from complainant on Polk 299 near Mena of the theft of firearms, prescription medications, jewelry and change. Arrested was Samuel L. Bissell, 33, of Mena, on Charges of Residential Burglary, Theft, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
November 17, 2013
Report of a house fire on Polk 286 near Hatfield. Origin of fire is believed to be electrical.
Report from the U. S. Forest Service of a break-in at property on Highway 88 East near Mena. Nothing appeared to be missing.
Report of a vehicle fire on Moss Lane near Hatfield. Origin of fire is unknown.
Report from complainant on Polk 21 near Cove of the theft of a firearm, valued at $1,200.00. Information has been provided to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for further consideration.
Arrested was Anthony M. Robertson, 23, of Mena, on Charges of Criminal Conspiracy, Obstructing Governmental Operations and Possession of a Firearm by Certain Persons.
Arrested by a trooper with the Arkansas State Police was Buddy B. Smith, 21, of Texarkana, on Charges of DWI, Obstructing Governmental Operations and Careless/Prohibited Driving.
