The following information was received from Polk County Sheriff Scott Sawyer for the week of September 30, 2024 – October 6, 2024. The charges against those arrested are allegations and the cases are still pending in the courts. Individuals charged and whose names appear in this column may submit documentation to us at a later date that the charges have been dismissed or that they have been found innocent and we will include that information in this space in a timely manner.

 

September 30, 2024

Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Polk 20 near Cove in reference to threatening text messages.

Faron Putnam, 35, of Mena was arrested by an officer with the Arkansas Game and Fish on charges of DWI and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test.

 

October 1, 2024

Joshua Gibson, 43, of Mena was arrested by an officer with the Arkansas State Police on a charge of No Seat Belt and on a Failure to Appear Warrant.

 

October 2, 2024

Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Polk 25 near Cove in reference to a possible stolen firearm. The firearm was later located, and a citation issued for theft of property.

 

October 3, 2024

Fred Fuquay, 64, of Mena was arrested by an officer with Probation Parole on a warrant for Failure to Register.

Deputies responded to a walk-in complainant in reference to threats being made. Information has been forwarded to the Prosecuting Attorney for further consideration.

 

October 4, 2024

Deputies responded to a walk-in complainant in reference to harassment.

Melvin Benson, 54, of Mena was arrested on a charge of Drinking in Public.

Deputies were dispatched to a vehicle accident on Hwy 8 East near Mena leading to the arrest of William Watson, 67, of Mena on charges of DWI, Careless and Prohibited Driving, and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test.

 

October 5, 2024

Deputies were dispatched to a welfare check near Lake Wilhelmina.

 

October 6, 2024

Deputies were dispatched to a business near Cove in reference to a verbal altercation. Information has been forwarded to the Prosecuting Attorney for further consideration.

 

Polk County Sheriff’s Office worked 1 vehicle accident this week.

Polk County Detention Center Jail Population: 29 Incarcerated Inmates with 12 Inmates currently on the Waiting List for a State Facility.
