Mena Water Utilities will be doing smoke testing of the sewer system in the areas between Sherwood and Reine Streets, January 14th. Smoke testing involves blowing harmless smoke into the sewer system to locate defects in the sewer system. During smoke testing, you may see smoke coming from roof vents on houses, building foundations, manhole covers, storm inlets or holes in the ground. The smoke is non-toxic and harmless to humans, pets, food, and material goods. There is no fire-hazard. The smoke should not enter your home unless you have defective plumbing or dried-up drain traps. If this occurs, you should consult a licensed plumber for the necessary repairs. Any additional concerns should be directed to the Mena Water Utilities office at 394-2761.
