Mena hosted the 2014 Area 14 Special Olympics – Track & Field event on Friday, April 4, at Bearcat Stadium. The event attracted just over 180 Olympians who enjoyed competing in track, softball throw, long jump and bocce ball competitions. Elizabeth Thompkins served as this year’s Area 14 State Director.
Linda Rowe, who served as the local event planning committee chair, expressed her sincere gratitude to the almost 120 volunteers who came and assisted to make the day a very special one for its athletes. Assisting Rowe with her endeavor were Sue Cavner, Christy Plunkett, Tammy Young, LeAnn Dilbeck, Sharon Aleshire, Nina Moore, Donna Fryar, James Earl Turner, Angie Graves, Jeanette Berry, Connie Rook Sherri McCourtney, Sherry Clement, and Cindy Long.
