Team Arkansas Earns 2nd Place in Overall Points in AAU Junior Olympic Meet


Six team members of the Mena Barracudas swim team, who earned their place onto Team Arkansas, have returned from the national AAU Junior Olympic meet as champions, helping Team Arkansas earn 2nd place in overall points, plus an additional 15 medals and five ribbons.

The team traveled to Ann Arbor, Michigan to compete July 24-27 among the nation’s top swimmers. The six local swimmers joined with 74 of the state’s top swimmers earning their place to compete as Team Arkansas.


Barracuda team member Madison Morris brought home four medals for placing 4th in freestyle relay, 4th in 400m medley relay, 4th in 200m freestyle relay, and 3rd in 200m medley relay.

Mac Caldwell brought home two medals for placing 1st in 200m medley relay and 2nd in 200m freestyle relay.

Brad Bates brought home two medals for 2nd in 400m freestyle relay, 2nd in 200m freestyle relay and a 13th place finish for individual 100m butterfly.


Allison Bates brought home three medals for 6th in 200m freestyle relay, 5th in the 200m medley relay, and 8th place for individual 100m butterfly. She also placed 13th in 200m individual medley and 16th in 50m butterfly.

Josie Scott brought home two medals for 5th in 200m freestyle relay, 6th in 200m medley relay, and a 14th place for individual 200m individual medley.

Tabitha Levering brought home two medals for 6th in 200m freestyle relay, 7th in 200m relay, and a 12th place finish in the individual 100m butterfly.
