The Polk County Fair is Coming

The Polk County Fair is coming August 28 through August 31.  This year’s theme is Barn in the USA.

Exhibits are accepted in the Education Building at the fairgrounds on Tuesday, August 27 from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm for all exhibits except for Baked Goods and Candies and Fresh Cut Flowers.  Baked Goods and Candies and Fresh Cut Flowers are accepted on Wednesday, (August 28) morning from 7:30 am until 10:00 am.  Farm and Garden Crops are accepted Tuesday and Wednesday.  You may enter Quilts, Photographs, Clothing and Sewing, Home Canned Foods, Arts and Crafts, Knitted and Crocheted Items, Artwork ( NOTE:  As stated in the rules, ALL EXHIBITS MUST BE MOUNTED, MATTED OR FRAMED AND WIRED FOR HANGING – NO sawtooth hangers), Junior Arts and Crafts, Forestry Items, Potted Plants and other Horticulture on Tuesday, August 27 from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm.  Baked Goods and Candies and Fresh Cut Flowers may be entered on Wednesday, August 28 from 7:30 am until 10:00 am.  Farm and Garden Crops may be entered Tuesday or Wednesday.  Fair catalogs were distributed in the Mena Star and Ouachita Trading Post and are available at the Extension Office and several other locations as well as online.

Because the carnival rides are being assembled and other vendors setting up displays, please use the Exhibitor’s Entrance at the south end of the fairgrounds to check in your exhibits Tuesday and Wednesday.  From Mena, continue on Highway 71 past Fairgrounds Road approximately ½ mile to Griffith Park Road.  Turn left, (at Bowser Funeral Home), then turn left on Rodeo Drive.  Continue past the Dead End sign and the fairgrounds entrance is on the right.  Signs will be posted.  The Education Building is the red metal and brick building.  Bring your entries through the side metal door.  All exhibits must be picked up on Sunday, September 1 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm.  Award checks should be available to pick up with your exhibits.

Come enjoy the fair!  The Commercial Building is open Wednesday from 2:00 – 10:00, the Education Building is open after judging is complete, 5:00 – 10:00 and the carnival opens Wednesday evening.  The Education Building is open from 10 am until 10 pm Thursday, Friday and Saturday, The Commercial Building is open from 2 pm – 10 pm Thursday and Friday and from 10 am – 10 pm Saturday.  The carnival is open Wednesday through Saturday.  Purchase wrist bands for carnival rides at area banks, Kess’ Corner, Country Express and the Fair Office in advance for $20.00.  Cost for wrist bands at the fair is $25.00.  Fair admission is $5.00 per person, children 12 and under are free.  Seniors 60 and over are free on Thursday, August 29.   There is no charge for parking.  See the catalog for days and times of the judging and showing of animals.
