“Saddle Up With FCCLA” was the theme for the October 10 District 6 Planning and Election Meeting at the Family Life Center, First United Methodist Church in Dardanelle, AR. District officers who planned and conducted the meeting include: President Ashlyn Hickey from Dardanelle; VP of Programs Ashton Staton from Sylvan Hills; VP Public Relations Jared Standridge from Acorn and Treasurer Harly Dearing from Cossatot River High School FCCLA. Program agenda began with Presentation of Colors by Dardanelle JROTC; Pledge of Allegiance by Harly Dearing and National Anthem sung by Alex Clark from Dardanelle. After the traditional opening ceremony led by Ashlyn Clark, Ashlyn Hickey introduced officers and Ashton Staton introduced guests, Marna Strickland Farris from the FACS Division of the Arkansas Career Education Department; Debbie Welch from Relay For Life of Polk County Arkansas and Mrs. Shirey, paraprofessional from Lake Hamilton School District.
A representative from each of the 19 schools in attendance presented roll call with a report of numbers of advisers, members and guests in attendance. Harly Dearing reported that minutes from the officer planning meeting were posted on the state FACS ACE website and then presented the financial report. Ashton Staton told the group about national and state service projects and introduced Mrs. Shirey who spoke to the group about her work with autistic students since the FCCLA National Project, Share Our Strength, this year includes collaboration with Autism Speaks.
Next, Jared Standridge explained that for the second consecutive year, District 6 officers had chosen American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life as their district project. He introduced Debbie Welch, who spoke to the group about her experiences with Relay for Life and encouraged all chapters to establish or continue a team to participate in their local events.
During election of officers, Jared Standridge was elected as District 6 2014 State Officer Candidate! Lake Hamilton Junior High FCCLA Adviser Jill Tolleson spoke about upcoming STAR Events and encouraged both students and advisers to become involved. After presentation of officers for 2014-2015 (who will be installed at the December 10 District 6 Fall Leadership Meeting in Maumelle), Ashlyn Hickey led the closing ceremony. Acorn FCCLA Secretary, Jordan Pennington served as voting delegate and roll call representative at the meeting. Congratulations again to Jared Standridge, who will interview for state office at Arkansas 4-H Center in January!!!
Jared Standridge is elected as District 6 state officer candidate…the next step in this process will be for him to prepare for and attend the state officer interview along with 11 other students in January in hopes of being one of six FCCLA state officers selected for 2014.
