Wiles Announces Retirement

Endorses Thomas

Polk County Assessor, June Wiles, officially announced Thursday that she will retire at the end of this year. Wiles’ last day will be December 31st, after serving the county for over 17 years.

Wiles began her career in the County Assessors office in 1996, was elected to her current position in 2005, and has held that position to the present time. She was instrumental in bringing several advancements to the office of which included technology that provides better service for county residents. “I have seen many advances in technology during my time in office and was proud to set up the online assessing option and digital mapping feature for Polk County,” said Wiles.  “I have enjoyed my work and greatly appreciate my office staff. They have made my job so much easier.”

While Wiles has enjoyed her role as a public servant, she is also eager to enjoy more time with her husband of 44 years, Dean, and their 3 children and 7 grandchildren. “I will miss working with the other elected officials and my co-workers, but look forward to traveling with my husband and spending more time with my grandchildren.”

Wiles is pleased to endorse her chief deputy, Jovan Thomas, as a candidate for the office of Polk County Assessor in the 2014 general election. According to Wiles she is “well-equipped” to step into the role of Assessor. Thomas is the first announced assessor candidate for the 2014 ballot. The two joked that Thomas was “after her job” but Wiles says she is more than fine with it!

Thomas has worked in the assessor’s office for over 16 years, having started in 1997. “I hope the voters will consider me and give me a chance to use my experience to better serve Polk County,” Thomas said. She is a qualified Level 4 senior appraiser in the state of Arkansas and a member of the Arkansas Assessors Association and the International Association of Assessing Officers. She also has over 500 hours of continuing education classes in the appraisal field.

Thomas’ husband of 2 years, Mike, is employed by the Arkansas State Police and they share 3 children. Jovan is a graduate of Mena High School.
