Bearcats Dominate Fouke On Senior Night


On Tuesday night, February 6th, the Mena Ladycat and Bearcat basketball teams hosted Fouke at the Union Bank Center for their last regular season home game.

In senior girls game, the Fouke Lady Panthers started the game on an 8-0 run, before finishing over the quarter outscoring the Ladycats 12-2. Mena quintupled their score in the second, but the Ladycats were still outscored 14-8, to trail by sixteen going into halftime, with the score 26-10.

Mauldin led the Lady Panthers with 8 points at halftime, as Thacker led Mena with 6 points.

Fouke outscored the Ladycats again in the third quarter, 17-10, to take a twenty-three point, 43-20, lead into the final quarter of play. In the fourth quarter, Mena added on seven more points, but fell short in the end by twenty-eight, 55-27.

Hardir led the Fouke Lady Panthers with 17 points on the night, while Mauldin added on 14 points, Larey 10 points, Smallwood 6 points, McMurray and Oliver 3 points each, and Bivens 2 points.

Tateli Thacker led the Mena Ladycats with 10 points, as Grace Wagner scored 6 points, Kiera Kesterson and Paige Evans 4 points each, and Cadie Cannon 3 points.

For the finale of the night, the Mena senior boys matched up against the Fouke Panthers.

The Bearcats outscored Fouke 16-8 in the first four and a half minutes, forcing the Panthers to call a timeout with 3:33 left in the opening quarter. Following the early timeout, both teams scored six points each, to make the score 22-14, going into the second. Connor Harvey outscored the entire Fouke team with 16 points in the first. Mena went on to outscore the Panthers 21-11 in the second, to lead by eighteen, 43-25, at halftime.

Browning led the Panthers with 10 points at the half, while Harvey led Mena with 19 points.

Mena didn’t let up in the third quarter, holding the Panthers to only seven points, while scoring twenty-eight of their own, to make the score 71-32 going into the fourth. Fouke narrowly outscoring the Bearcats 7-5 in the final quarter, but ultimately fell short by thirty-seven, 76-39.

Browning led the Fouke Panthers with 10 points, as Crump scored 9 points, Scoggins 7 points, Smith 4 points, Townsend 3 points, and Hale, Crabtree, and Tice 2 points each.

Connor Harvey led the Mena Bearcats with 29 points on the night, while Nick Myers added on 12 points of his own, Blake Seals 10 points, Brock Strother 7 points, Marc Wilson 6 points, Daniel Davis 5 points, Zane Stephens 4 points, David Grenier 2 points, and Caleb Baber 1 points.

Both the Ladycats and Bearcats are competing the 7-4A Conference Basketball Tournament this week, at Robinson High School in Little Rock, Arkansas.
