Charles E. Holmes

Elder Charles E. Holmes, age 91, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024, in Mena, Arkansas. He was born May 21, 1932, to the late Ora L. and Cora (Bates) Holmes, in Mena, Arkansas.

Mr. Holmes was a traveling minister by profession, he loved his church family deeply. He also was the owner of his own private garden breaking and bush hogging business. Charles was an avid Bluegrass musician and loved the genre of music deeply. He could play 8 instruments, but his favorite was the mandolin. It was said that “if it had strings, then he could play it!”

Mr. Holmes is preceded in death by his parents, Ora L. and Cora (Bates) Holmes, son, James Calvin Holmes; brothers, Robert Calvin Holmes, Jess Holmes, B.R. (Bunny) Holmes, Fred Holmes; sisters, Iva May Sikes, Mary Lou Phillips, Ida Jane Breitenstein, and Rose Lea Beck.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Lou (Davis) Holmes; grandchildren, Brandon Holmes, Stephanie Holmes Bobo, Rylee Holmes, Jade Holmes; great-grandchildren, Zoey Garner, Chance Garner; brother, Glen Holmes; as well as by a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends too numerous to mention.

Services for Mr. Holmes will be held at, 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the  Primitive Baptist Church in Mena, Arkansas. Elder Dennis Horn, Elder Chris Dunn, and Elder James Issac will be officiating under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Board Camp Cemetery in Board Camp, Arkansas. Visitation will be general.

Pallbearers are Brandon Holmes, Amber Holmes, Stephanie Holmes Bobo, Briant Bobo, Larry Wood, and Noal Beck.
