Many doubted the ability of Board Camp, Arkansas to be a venue for an event that would draw such headliners as Diamond Rio and Marshall Tucker, and yet, Saturday night, there they were, Diamond Rio delivering a stellar performance on the newly constructed grand-scale stage at the first annual Crystal Music Festival.
Promoters, Orville and Cheryl Murphy, were unable to confirm ticket sales as of press time Tuesday but did say they recognized the inclement weather preceding the event kept some at home. They were equally quick to credit God with clearing the skies for the dynamic country band to take the stage. “We now know that less showed than anticipated because of the rain, and that was understandable, but it poured around Board Camp, and not over Board Camp! That was God and an answer to our frantic prayers when the clouds rolled in! This is a rain or shine event. Come prepared for sun or rain. We do not plan to cancel…we may have to delay…like ball games are delayed,” said Cheryl.
The Marshall Tucker band will perform at 8 p.m. this Saturday, July 27. The band’s recent release of their Greatest Hits album, in traditional vinyl form, is a time capsule for early 70’s, the time that made them great. The band is still led today by founding member and lead singer Doug Gray, representing a time and place in music that will never be duplicated.
For the Rock Music Festival of July 26-28, in addition to The Marshall Tucker Band, appearing on Saturday night, will be the Middle-Eastern Belly dance team, Tribal Fusion; singer/songwriter, Kassi Moe; Gatling & Hoffpauir; Sugar Creek Blues Band; country/rock cover band, Whiskey Peak Band; Nashville’s Eskimo Brothers; David B. Lindy; Mena’s Spinelli’s Café regulars, Brothers And Sons; and opening for The Marshal Tucker Band, Nashvilleand Mena songwriter/singer/guitarist, Richie Owens & Six Mile Creek.
Saturday tickets to only see The Marshall Tucker Band are $45 each. 3-day tickets for The Marshall Tucker Band weekend are $125 with camping, and $90 without camping, and if you buy 6 or more tickets at one time, for one of the 3 day Festivals there will be a discount of $25, off each ticket.
