Last Tuesday night, February 13th, the Cossatot River senior boys basketball team took on the Genoa Central Dragons, in the quarter-finals of the 7-3A District Basketball Tournament at Cossatot River High School.
The Dragons started the game off on a 7-0 run, forcing Cossatot to call a timeout with 5:53 left in the first quarter. Following the timeout, Genoa outscored the Eagles 10-5, to take a twelve point, 17-5, lead into the second. Cossatot narrowed down the Dragons lead in the second quarter of play, outscoring Genoa 21-11. And thanks to a Juan Trinidad three-pointer at the end of the quarter, the Eagles went into halftime down by only two, with the score 28-26.
Colby Cobb and Lawson Michaels led the Dragons with 9 points each at halftime, as Trenton Rosson led Cossatot with 13 points.
Genoa began to pull away again in the third, outscoring the Eagles 17-9, to take a ten point, 45-35, lead into the fourth and final quarter of play. Cossatot went on to score only seven points in the fourth, to the Dragons fifteen points, to end their season with an eighteen point, 60-42, loss to the Genoa Central Dragons.
Lawson Mcihaels led the Genoa Central Dragons with 17 points, while Colby Cobb added on 13 points, Cole Dawson 11 points, Kolten McCoy 10 points, and Alex Woodle 9 points.
Trenton Rosson led the Cossatot River Eagles with 18 points in the game, as Juan Trinidad scored 9 points of his own, Brian Strother 8 points, Coy Frachiseur 5 points, and Cody Brown 2 points.
On Thursday, February 15th, the Cossatot River Lady Eagles fell short to the Fouke Lady Panthers in the semi-finals after a first round bye, but defeated the Genoa Central Lady Dragons 45-25, on Saturday. The Lady Eagles will take on Junction City on Thursday, February 22nd, at Fordyce in the first round of the 3A Region 4 Basketball Tournament, at 7:00pm.
