John Earl Cogburn

John Earl Cogburn, age 77, of Shady, Arkansas passed away Sunday, February 28, 2016 in Shady.  He was born in Posey Hollow, Arkansas on March 09, 1938 to the late Melvin “Rooster” Mitchell Cogburn and the late Bessie Damsel Hendrix Cogburn.  He was married to Ova Jean Alexander Cogburn for almost 58 years on June 23.

Mr. Cogburn enjoyed being outside going hunting, fishing, and gardening with family and friends. He liked to hunt for treasures and was an avid Yankees baseball fan.  First and foremost he gave his heart to the Lord and he loved his family very much..  He was a loving and kind husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him. Mr. Cogburn was loved by all.

He is survived by, wife, Ova “Jean” Cogburn of Shady, Arkansas; daughter, Teresa Hillard and husband Pete of Mena, Arkansas; grandchildren, Amber Williams and husband Keith of Mena, Arkansas, Lindsay Castor and husband Brandon of Benton, Arkansas and John “Bubba” Hillard of Mena, Arkansas; great-grandchildren, Lexi Williams of Mena, Arkansas, Nick Williams of Mena, Arkansas and sister, Mae Wright of Stigler, Oklahoma

He was preceded in death by, his parents, Rooster and Bessie Cogburn and his brothers, William Cogburn and Joe Cogburn.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church with Brother Danny Minton and Brother Dendin Guinn officiating. Interment will follow in the Shady Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

Pallbearers will be Sam Wright, Mike Wright, Dennis Wright, Jake Wright, Myron Alexander, Keith Alexander, Jeffrey Alexander, and Danny Hendrix.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Alexander, Steve Alexander, Wayne Faulkner, and Sam Clayburn.
