On Monday, October 2nd, Mena Volleyball hosted the Ashdown Panthers for ‘Volley For A Cure’ night at the Union Bank Center. Prior to Monday night’s games, the Ladycats had been raising money for Breast Cancer awareness along with all cancers in general.
The Junior High Varsity Ladycats took the court to start off the night’s volleyball action, and didn’t disappoint. Mena earned an early lead and didn’t look back, defeating the Lady Panthers by fourteen, 25-11, in the first set of the match. In the second set, both teams kept it closer, however, the Ladycats broke the 17-17 tie and went on an 8-1 run to defeat Ashdown 25-18, and win the match 2-0.
For the finale of the night, the Senior High Varsity Ladycats took on the Lady Panthers of Ashdown. The Ladycats demolished Ashdown in the first set, winning by nineteen, 25-6. Ashdown took advantage of a close back and forth set in the second, and closed the set on a 5-0 run to win 25-20. Tied at one set win a piece going into the third set, the Ladycats were able to run away with the game after being tied at 17-17, and finished on an 8-2 run, to win the set 25-19. Mena scored the first six points of the fourth and final set and didn’t let up. The Ladycats went on to win by six, 25-19, and win the match 3-1.
Mena Volleyball traveled to Paris on Tuesday, October 3rd, and will be back in the Union Bank Center next Monday, October 9th, to host the Russellville Lady Cyclones.
