Ladycats Win Game Two Versus Genoa Central


Monday night, March 6th, the Mena Ladycats played the Genoa Central Lady Dragons in a doubleheader of softball.

In the first game, the Lady Dragons defeated Mena by a score of 7-1.

Genoa’s Lakyn Fluker was able to keep the Ladycats scoreless in the top of the first of the second game, as Mena’s only baserunner came from a walk.

Lexi Brooks retired the Lady Dragons three-up three-down in the bottom of the first with three groundouts, keeping the score tied at zero through one inning of play.

Six straight batters reached base for Mena in the second, before Fluker was able to retire Reagan Sikes for the first out. The Ladycats went on to get a few more hits in the inning, scoring seven total runs, to make the score 7-0 in favor of Mena going into the bottom of the first.

Brooks retired the first two batters she faced in the bottom of the second before she hit Genoa’s Dayton May with the pitch, to give the Lady Dragons their first base runner of the night. Following the hit by pitch, Brooks struck out Kelsey Mattson to end the inning. Mena kept their seven run advantage in tact heading into the third inning.

Shae Brown led off the top of the third for the Ladycats with a single. Mena’s pitcher Lexi Brooks then hit a triple into right field to score Brown. Brooks scored on the next play, as Sikes drove in the run with a groundout. Sealy Thigpen grounded out for the second out of the inning, as Autumn Powell flew out to end the inning after AnnaBeth Hunter singled into right field. The score was 9-0 in favor of Mena.

The Lady Dragons went down in order again in the bottom of the third, as Lexi Brooks got the first batter to pop out and the next two to groundout. Keeping the score 9-0 after three inning of softball.

With the bases loaded in the fourth inning and two outs, Mena’s Reagan Sikes hit a ground ball to the shortstop, but after a wild throw, two runs scored on the play. Thigpen then grounded out to end the inning, but not after the Ladycats added on two runs in the fourth, to make the score 11-0 Mena.

After another perfect inning by Lexi Brooks, with a ground out and two strike outs in the bottom of the fourth, Mena kept their 11-0 lead in place heading into the fifth inning of play.

The Ladycats were able to add on one more run in the fifth, and final inning of play after a few base hits and a passed ball. The score was 12-0 going into the bottom half of the fifth inning.

Mena started off the bottom of the fifth with an error by the first baseman, but the Ladycats were able to pick off the runner just a few pitches later. Brooks then walked a batter and hit a Lady Dragon with two outs, but Amber Loomis struck out to end the game. Lexi Brooks completed her no-hitter pitching performance, and led the Ladycats to a 12-0 victory over the Genoa Central Lady Dragons.
