BY MELANIE BUCK –
This year, citizens of Polk County will have their choice of three Thanksgiving feasts provided by area churches so that no one has to pass time alone over the holiday.
The Annual All Church Thanksgiving Feast is set for 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, at First Baptist in Mena in their multi-purpose building. The event is in its fifth year and began after the devastating 2009 tornado when several church leaders of various denominations met weekly for prayer, lifting up the people in the area.
“From these impromptu meetings came a desire for greater fellowship among local area congregations, leading to the Mena Area All Church Thanksgiving Feast,” said Keith Rose, a past event organizer.
More than 350 have been fed in previous feasts. There is no cost for the event that is open to the public, however, since it is a potluck meal, churches request that you let them know how many to expect. If you have questions, you can call Pastor Ron Tilley at 479-243-7000. There will also be a time for worship and a message.
First Baptist Church of Hatfield will also hold a free Thanksgiving Dinner at their church, located on Hwy. 71 South in Hatfield. The event will be held on Saturday, November 22, at 5 p.m.
Covenant of Life Family Church, 1101 Pine Avenue, Mena, will also hold an event. The 21st Annual “Don’t Eat Home Alone” event is slated for 12 noon on Thanksgiving Day for a day of fellowship and great food. Deliveries are limited to the shut-ins only please. If you need a ride or would like to make a reservation please call by November 24, at 479-394-6763 or 479-394-1126.
