Several businesses have recently opened in the downtown Mena area, joining some well known ones already there. They include an antique store, DIY crafts gallery, women’s clothing store, restaurant/craft gallery, and scrap-booking store. Most of these provide opportunities to discover or further develop creative interests. Whether it’s decorating your home, adding to your wardrobe or eating a meal, it can be found here.
To showcase the changes and growth of the downtown area, the Mena Art Gallery is spearheading a project to present the first annual Ouachita Arts Celebration in the Downtown Arts District of Mena on Saturday, November 1, 2014. Other local creative arts businesses involved are the Ouachita Little Theatre, Chameleon Arts, Four Winds Trading Post, Elle, the Cross-Eyed Cricket, and American Artisans. Local governmental and economic development organizations are also contributing to the discussions and planning.
This six hour event will be pedestrian-friendly, open to the public, and will involve demonstrations, competitions and hands-on learning experiences in several visual and performing arts forms. More information will be published in late summer, but meanwhile plan on coming out and joining the fun the first day of November.
If you’re interested in taking part in this special event, you can learn more by calling the Mena Art Gallery at 479-394-3880.
