A toddler was struck and injured at the Veteran’s Park in Acorn Saturday evening. The Polk County Command Center received a 911 call at approximately 6 p.m. of the incident and officers and EMS were dispatched.
According to Polk County Sheriff Mike Godfrey, 2-year old Jazlyn Baker of Broken Bow, Oklahoma was attending a softball tournament with her mother, Olivia Noahuvi also of Broken Bow, at the complex when she darted between two cars and was struck by a 2004 Ford Ranger.
Noahuvi transported her daughter to Mena Regional Health System where she was air-lifted to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock.
Godfrey said no one was cited in the incident and grateful that the pickup was appropriately driving at a low-rate of speed. He used the opportunity to stress the importance to stay focused when supervising young children. “It’s easy in this instantaneous world we now live in to have our attention diverted so we have to take the time to focus.”
Godfrey said she sustained a broken leg and multiple cuts and contusions.
