Taylor Copelin, Jared Standridge and Lydia Tilley, Acorn FCCLA officers, recently attended the 2014 Arkansas FCCLA State Leadership Meeting at Reynolds Performance Hall on UCA Campus in Conway, AR. Theme for the meeting was “The FCCLA Puzzle.” Totally planned and led by student officers, the day provided upbeat directives and suggestions for engaging in life skills, including breakout sessions such as “The Puzzle Pieces of FCCLA-Where Do You Fit In?” and “Puzzled by Careers in FACS?” Arkansas native and motivational speaker, Paul Vitale reinforced the theme with his presentation, “Are You Puzzled By the Puzzle of Life?” Each attendee received a copy of one of his books which he signed afterwards while visiting with the teens. Following a break for lunch at Mike’s Place in downtown Conway with their adviser, Annette Hays, the Acorn delegation returned for an afternoon filled with a readers’ theater, recognition for participation in outreach projects, national programs and STAR Events. Acorn FCCLA received certificates for Gold Star Status and Piecing Together Local, State and National Outreach Programs. Gold Star Status denotes the highest level of participation in local, state and national FCCLA projects. A few of Acorn FCCLA’s outreach programs for this year include: Sorge Christmas Angel, March of Dimes, Arkansas Rice and Diaper Depot and American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. The culmination of the meeting involved adviser tributes, state officers’ challenges, president’s farewell and installation of the 2013-2014 Arkansas State FCCLA Officers.
