Dallas Avenue Baptist Church is proud to name Logan McCourtney as their new Children/Youth Minister, replacing Carl Fair who accepted a new opportunity as Senior Pastor at the First Baptist Church in Dardanelle.
Logan is the son of Dr. Bill and Sherri McCourtney and graduated from Mena High School in 2010, and Arkansas State University in 2013 with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications. Logan said he is passionate about teaching God’s Word to children so that they may recall it as the grow older, comparing it to planting a seed, “I may never see the fruits of the seed planted but I know that they will be there.”
He began part-time in January this year but became full-time as Fair announced his departure. He said the opportunity to teach children while their hearts are still soft enables a strong foundation to be built, “They are just so much more receptive to learn and accept… before their hearts become hardened and before the society’s views set in.” He believes that it is in reaching this next generation that families will ultimately be changed for the better, citing many of the alarming recent statistics of broken homes.
Logan shared that he first became a Christian during the second semester of his senior year in high school. He said he led a Bible study his freshman year in college and witnessed five being saved and it was that moment that he said he realized that “generations could be changed…eternally.” Going into ministry, he said, was not an “aha” moment but a natural progression.
“It’s very satisfying… I want these children to know they are loved, valued and cherished. Watching their faces when that light comes on is one of the most gratifying experiences I’ve ever known.”
