LOCAL PHOTOGRAPHER DONATES SYMBOLIC IMAGE FOR UPCOMING Y-CITY FUNDRAISER
BY LEANN DILBECK –
Local photographer William Rainey has donated a very symbolic photo to an upcoming fundraiser in Y-City for the victims of the Scott County flood. Accepting the photo is April Felion.
William spoke of the significance and symbolism of the photo,
“With the combination of rain and the rumor of the opening of Albert Pike I decided to go take a few pictures one Saturday morning before heading to work. As always it was an amazing drive. As I arrived at Albert Pike I noticed people were out enjoying the beautiful day as well, and once again people were returning to the place that held so much pain. As always I walked right out into the middle of the water taking pictures and enjoying the Lords beauty. I could still feel the heaviness of so much loss, something that I had experienced before in Thailand one year after the Tsunami.
In front of me was a young lad fishing with his grandmother enjoying the day as well. I generally don’t take people pictures but decided to ask the boy if he would mind me photographing him fishing thinking it would add to a beautiful scene. I took a few more pictures heading up river and decided that it was time for me to head to work. It wasn’t till later that evening when I was editing the picture that it occurred to me how significant it was. I decided I would write down my feelings on the picture and upon researching the date of the flood I discovered that it was just a few days pass the second anniversary.
This picture is not something I had planned to take but yet here it is. It gives me great peace as I hope it does others. For all those that was lost and those that still live with that day.”
William said he hopes it gives hope to the Scott County flood victims. The fundraiser is to be held this Saturday at Y-City and will be from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.
