The employees of Rose Aircraft held a benefit dinner for co-worker Bill Schuller to help deter medical expenses caused by a motorcycle accident that occurred while Schuller was on a fundraising poker run. The accident caused the loss of his right leg, up to his knee, and back injuries.
The event served approximately 130 people at the BBQ dinner with all the fixings. Door prizes were given and a silent auction and dessert auction were also held. All together the event raised over $4000.
Hog Country Cycles also hosted a Poker Run on the same day to benefit Schuller . The run took riders from Hog Country Cycles made a loop through Hatfield, Cove, Smithville, through Big Cedar and the Talimena Scenic drive and ended at The Crossing just in time for riders to enjoy dinner. About 30 riders took part and raised approximately $500.
An emotional Schuller stated, “I can’t believe the turnout that they had there, it was exceptional. I want to thank Rose Aircraft, my family there they are great and the community, too. Words can’t describe how it makes me feel, it’s so overwhelming what someone will do for you, even people that don’t know you. That’s what makes this so special. It’s fantastic.”
So far, Schuller has endured 7 surgeries and still has a long road ahead. His latest surgery, just last week, was performed to file some of his femur bone down so that enough skin would be left to cover the wound. Once healed, the doctors can clear him for a prosthetic leg. After receiving his prosthetic, therapy will help him become adjusted to his new lifestyle. His back still gives him a bit of trouble but other than that Schuller said, “I am feeling really well, yea, I’ve lost my leg but I feel really good.”
